Research is at the heart of the honors experience, giving students the opportunity to ask original questions, work closely with faculty and contribute new knowledge at a large, public-research university. Whether in a lab, studio, archive or community setting, honors students develop and hone critical thinking and problem-solving skills to guide them throughout their academic and professional journeys.
Honors students broaden their worldviews through study abroad programs, international internships and global research opportunities. Whether studying business culture in India, health policy in Sweden or ecology in Antarctica, scholars gain cross-cultural experience and a deeper understanding of the world’s complexity. The Futures Hub serves as a vital resource for navigating the complex paths beyond the classroom. This dedicated team supports honors scholars in unlocking the full range of opportunities available at the U of A and prepares them for their next steps—whether applying to medical school, refining their resumes or finding opportunities to engage on campus.
The Honors College offers competitive grant funding to support research, study abroad, internships, professional development, leadership experiences and more. These grants empower students to take on ambitious projects, explore the world and build skills and confidence for their future.
As large-scale data centers arrive across Arkansas, they promise investment, jobs
and critical digital infrastructure—but also raise urgent questions about energy and
water use, public incentives, environmental impact and community oversight.
Join the Honors College for an interdisciplinary Pulse Panel exploring the infrastructure
that powers our digital lives and the economic, environmental and political tradeoffs
accompanying this new wave of development. Panelists include Jake Dionne, assistant
professor of communication; Chris Farnell, assistant professor of electrical engineering
and computer science; Kevin Grace, senior account executive at Google Public Sector;
and Sara Gosman, associate professor of law. Honors students will moderate the discussion.
